ProMass for Xcalibur system requirements

In general, you should follow the system requirements for the version of Xcalibur that you are using.  The system requirements for running ProMass for Xcalibur are listed below:

  • Make sure you are logged on as administrator before installing ProMass
  • Thermo Xcalibur v. 1.2 or later must be installed or ProMass for Xcalibur will not run
  • PC with a Pentium II processor or later (>400 MHz recommended)
  • 128 MB RAM, 256 MB recommended
  • 40 MB of available hard disk space
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP6, Windows 2000 SP2**, or Windows XP SP1
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later

Follow the instructions >here< for installing ProMass.  Spectral deconvolution is a processor-intense operation.  The faster the PC the better.  Most of our tests reveal that speed is linearly related to processor clock speed.

Note: ProMass does not include web server software.  A web server is not required if you want to view your results on a local machine.  If you want to share your data with others over the internet or intranet you will need a web server.  However, if you are using SEQUEST, you probably already have the O'Reilly WebSite Pro or Microsoft IIS software installed.  You can then use one of these packages to serve the data produced by ProMass.

**Do not attempt to use Xcalibur on unsupported versions of Windows.   Automated processing under Xcalibur may not be reliable on unsupported combinations of Windows and Xcalibur.  Stick with versions of Windows that are officially supported by Thermo for the particular version of Xcalibur that you are using.
